Deciding to have your own grow room can be exciting for beginners.
It allows them to grow crops, vegetables, fruits, etc, in the comfort of their homes, especially with the help of indoor grow lights.
However, newbie growers are often left confused with the umpteen choices that they have.
They are often faced with the challenge of choosing the right materials and equipment for their setup.
Plus most beginners don’t have many funds to buy high-end items. If that sounds like you, don’t worry.
In this article, we’ll introduce the grow tent and discuss the pros of grow tents and help you decide which one is ideal for your needs.
Grow tents are designed to keep things simple for hobbyist growers. As convenient as grow tents are, they’re not designed for huge plants’ grow operations! But for someone who wants 1–5 ounces/month, a grow tent may be the best way to go!
Relatively Cheap — Prices are around $70–150 for your average grow tent. Setting up a grow space to have all the same characteristics (reflective walls, air-tight vents, light-proof, a waterproof tray at the bottom to catch spilt water, etc.) can easily cost the same amount or more. Plus it’s difficult to DIY a space so that it works as well as a grow tent (which has been designed for this purpose) and it will often take more time, planning and effort than simply buying a pre-made tent.
Easy & Quick to Set Up — Assembling your grow tent and getting completely set up to start growing will take about an afternoon and can be done by just about anyone (full instructions below). Overall, the work of setting up a grow tent reminds me of putting together an old-fashioned camping tent, only the plant comes out of it a few months later!
Stealth — A grow tent prevents smells and light from escaping the tent when set up properly, and can be tucked away in a big closet or the corner of a room without necessarily drawing a whole lot of attention.
Perpetual Harvest — Grow tents work very well if you want to keep two separate grow spaces, for example, if you want a separate vegetative and flowering chamber for a perpetual harvest. Grow tents create a completely self-enclosed environment that can be managed separately.
Helps Prevent Bugs — The intake holes of most grow tents are covered with mesh, which allows air to pass but stop many insects. This helps prevent incidental bugs like spiders or carpenter beetles from getting to your plants. A grow tent with strong grow lights is also a pretty hot and inhospitable environment for many plants’ pests!
Keeps Buds Clean — In addition to preventing bugs from getting on your plants, the mesh intake holes help keep out dust and impurities. The sticky trichomes on plants’ buds are surprisingly good at holding on to fibres, animal hair and anything that floats by. A surprising amount of random debris can get onto your buds even if you keep your grow room pristine. A grow tent helps keep buds clean and looking good!

If you still are unsure what grow tent to get, then I highly recommend you read the section below to understand what features to look for in a tent, and why it matters when it comes to real issues an indoor grower may run into. With a solid understanding, you can go out and try to find a tent that best suits your needs.
The Frame Work of the Grow Tent
In reality, I have more than 10 years of experience with grow tents, back when grow tents were made very cheaply I was in the mix. I have dealt with grow tents where the metal joints did not snap together well or was near impossible to take apart. You want to get high-quality steel bars that snap into place. If the steel bars connect poorly then you will notice a wobbling in your tent. Often times you need to slide the grow tent around (smaller sizes) to access all sides of the tent. Having a strong frame is important for the longevity of the tent. Make sure the metal attachments lock into each other instead of just sliding in with nothing to hold it but pressure.
The Quality of Fabric Determines the Best Grow Tent
The stitching of the canvas of the grow tent is important. If your tent’s fabric is very thin then you are prone to more light leaks and smell leaks. 2021 most grow tents are heavily made and Gorilla tents are even double layer. It’s hard to tell from pictures but you want to make sure that the grow tents are at least mentioning that their canvas is stitched for no light leaks and smell proof. Read the reviews to see customers showing pictures of light leaks or making claims of smell leaks. If there are one or two people I wouldn’t worry, but if all the reviews are claiming this then you will want to avoid that grow tent.
The Best Grow Tent has Great Functionality and Features
Functionality is important. Most grow tents these days come with amazing options in the way they set up the tent. For example, Gorilla offers many “ports” at the top, side, and bottom, for you to run carbon filters, fans, PVC pipes, and even running your wand to feed inside of the tent. Not only that you want to make sure that the top steel bars are reinforced with an extra crisscrossing of bars so you can hang very heavy lights and scrubbers at the top.
The Add On’s a Grow Tent Allows
A grow tent is premium or considered high end when it also allows for add on’s. Things such as extending the top for taller plants, or using the inside steel bar framework to hang a trellis (SCROG net). There are various attachments such as fans and ratchet strings that allow you to customize carbon filters and light levels.
With so many grow tents available in the market, picking out the best one can be pretty confusing. For your convenience, we have sorted out the ones that best suit your interest. Make sure that you check the features, material, pricing, and everything in between before you make the final purchase. Additionally, it is also important that you keep an eye out for the material of the tent before you decide to splurge out all of your money.
