While the type of strain is still the main factor in determining the quality of rosin, keep in mind that the type of microbag you use is also a factor in potency and the amount that can be extracted from the material.
As a container for buds or hashes, it keeps the rosin as pure as possible by isolating it from other unwanted ingredients in the extract.
But there are other things to consider when choosing a microbag for rosin production.
To help you decide, read the rest of this article so you can understand how microbags can be a key component of rosin extraction.
This brings us to the original question: what is a rosin microbag? Why, it is a tool used in the process of creating rosin. Essentially, the bag is made of nylon sewn together to create a mesh-like material that acts as a filter system. This bag separates the plant matter from the desired cannabinoid oil you are trying to extract.
Rosin microbags are kind of like coffee filters. These bags are available in various grades, which are measured in microns. They can also be cut in various lengths and widths. A micron is a unit of measurement in the metric system and is equivalent to one millionth of a meter long (or about 39 millionths of an inch). For perspective, the average length of a human hair is 50 microns, and the human eye cannot see anything smaller than 40 microns.
First, you need to make sure you turn the bag over to create a pouch shape. Next, take the plant material you want and break it down into small pieces. Fill the microbag with hemp material and fold over the end of the bag.
The bag is then placed inside the rosin press. Plates within the press heat, compress and apply heat and pressure to the contents of the bag, which pushes the oil out of the plant material and through the pores of the micron bag.
Features:
All ECO Farm rosin press bags measure 2 x 4 inches; these bags are pre-flipped, which will help you save prep time, and you can cut the bag into 2 pieces to save material. These food grade nylon press bags are made of strong and high quality nylon; these double needle rosin bags hold tight; the combination of high quality nylon and double needle sewing allows our extraction filters to produce the best yield possible. All nylon filter bags are sewn using the traditional strong double stitch method, during the pressing process of heated rosin, flower or plant material can be retained in the bag, and only the purest oil is extracted
Gutenberg’s Dank Pressing Co. 4" x 7" Rosin Press Bags
Features:
Gutenberg Dank Pressing Co. produces one of the most durable rosin bags on the market. The 4 x 7 inch rosin bag from Gutenberg Dank Pressing Co. is double stitched and strong enough to withstand bursting under high pressure. This 4 x 7 inch rosin bag is available in 8 different micron ratings for your buds or kief with minimal risk of bursting. Each rosin bag from Gutenberg Dank Pressing Co. is made from 100% food grade and dye free high quality nylon. It can withstand temperatures up to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.
PurePressure Micron Rosin Bags
Features:
All PurePressure’s premium food grade nylon rosin bags are designed to be turned inside out for maximum strength and seam integrity. They are purposely designed to be half an inch longer so that they can be folded with an extra half inch. Made from ultra-durable FDA food grade nylon monofilament mesh and FDA food grade polyester thread, it is designed to maximize yield by minimizing the distance oil must travel. Nylon provides mild stretch properties to reduce bursting and ensure excellent reliability
A wide range of micron bags are available in the market. These bags differ in size and quality of material. The following factor will make it easy for you to choose the right micron bag for your rosin press machines.
MICRON UNIT
The rosin press bags generally come in a range of 25–220 micron units. The lower micron bags are used for squishing the finer material while the coarse material is pressed with the higher micron size bags.
The quality and yield also with the micron number. The low micron bags deliver high quality and lower yield. The high micron bags deliver relatively low quality and higher yields.
The right quality and yield balance is achieved by selecting the right sized micron bags for extracting the rosin from the flowers. The micron unit of the filter bags therefore selected rightly to produce high quality rosin of reasonable yield.
SIZE SUITABILITY
The rosin bags are produced in different sizes. These sizes are designed to suit the filter bags with the plate dimensions of the rosin press machines.
If a filter bag has dimensions of 2×5 inch then it will not be compatible with the plate size of 3 inch width. The size of the filter bag also guides us regarding the load capacity of the bag.
The bag should be filled as per permissible limit to avoid the rupturing of the bag. It must be noted while purchasing micron filter bags for the rosin press that it should be compatible with the press machine.
MATERIAL
The material of construction of the rosin press is of high importance. Generally the rosin filter bags are manufactured from the high quality nylon material.
The rosin bags made of silk or metal are also available in the market. The silk bags have lower durability while the metal ones don’t offer a good filter of the rosin.
The filter bags made of 100 % provide highest quality while the bags made from the nylon mixed material deliver relatively lower quality.
Another factor should be noted that the rosin filter bags should have food grade material. The food grade material maintains the taste and characteristics of the extracted rosin concentrate.
SOLVENT RESISTANCE
The solvent resistance of the filter bags is very handy. The bags which show resistance to the solvent allow the filter bags to be cleaned with the alcohol or similar solvent.
The bags don’t rupture or damage during the solvent cleaning process. This cleaning process makes the bags available for reuse. If you are not interested in using the bag again then this factor is not important for you.
TEMPERATURE ENDURANCE
The rosin is extracted from the flowers by heating the flowers loaded in the micron filter bags. The temperature tolerance of each filter bag is usually mentioned on the packing of the bag.
Some high strength nylon filter bags are designed to withstand temperatures as high as 475 oF. Low temperature bearing filter bags are also manufactured.
The fine is squished under relatively low temperatures while the coarser material is squeezed under high temperature. A care must be taken that the filter bag should not be heated above the prescribed temperature limit of the bag.
Whether or not to use a filter bag is a very personal matter and depends on your own preferences. If you don’t mind getting the final product mixed with essential oils and botanical particles, you don’t have to use a filter bag. Rosin pressed without a filter bag tastes more like regular smoking. However, if you want to experience better application quality, we recommend using a mesh bag. Also, you should be aware that you may experience a slight yield loss when using filter bags for pressing, which means you ultimately have to decide for yourself what is most important to you, quality or quantity.
